Concerning a pick-me-up from the Epsom platform library at Raynes Park Station. Being the tale of a Paddy in Japan, otherwise 'The blue-eyed salaryman' by one Niall Murtagh, native to Dublin. Once the property of Merton Public Libraries.
An interesting & entertaining tale of his 15 years or so as a lifer with Mitsubishi. Clearly a clever chap, into both artificial intelligence and Japanese, qualifications which got him into Mitsubishi, not a company which employs many foreigners, at least not in Japan. At least not then, back in the mid eighties of the last century.
Slightly frustrating in that I got no sense of why someone with his vagabond background would do such a thing - although one could see why he might stay, having got there, having acquired a Japanese wife and a young family.
No personal web site, which surprised me, but google turned up lots of references to the book - and to his twitter account, which the bit put up by google suggested was a bit coarse in tone, so I didn't bother. But perhaps that is what private twits - as opposed to political or celebrity ones - do.
A bit awkward to return books to Raynes Park, so now en-route to Oxfam, Epsom.
