What is the matter with politicians? This post sparked by the front page headline in today's Guardian saying that the man for whom I will probably still vote has emphatically denied that he will do any kind of a deal with the SNP. With the headline confirmed by the copy which follows.
A party who look to sweep the board in Scotland and whose policies on public service matters are a lot closer to those of the Labour Party, or perhaps the Labour Party of old, than they are to those of the Conservative Party.
A century after the messy & bloody exit of most of Ireland from the United Kingdom, are we setting ourselves up for another mess? Will we never learn? Perhaps someone should remind Milliband that doing a deal with SNP can hardly be worse than Callaghan doing a deal with the Ulster Unionists.
But perhaps, in the long run he is done for anyway. Without the votes of all those Scottish MPs, the Labour Party in its present form looks unlikely to ever form a government, and one way or another those votes look like they will be going over the next few years.
