Made in Putney

Snapped in St. Mary's Street, Ely. A reminder of the days when we actually used to make things, other than estate agents, in Putney.

Home to find that they still exist (see reference 1) and that the reason the name was vaguely familiar was that they had relocated from Putney to an industrial estate just outside Earlsfield Station. I must have gazed at their shed thousands of times as the Epsom trains rolled past it.

Thinking about it now, maybe the shop blind business is not what it once was. Lots of shops don't have blinds any more and lots of once busy suburban shopping parades don't have shops any more. A thought confirmed by the history bit of their web site, from which I also learn that Dean Senior started out with a very successful line in canvas water buckets for our soldiers out fighting in the Boer War.
