An only fair snap of some stonework in the Lady Chapel. Only fair, but then it was only the work of the Lumia before the present, Zeiss enabled Luma 950. I shall try again on our next visit.
Note how the little man's face to the left, one of the many green men lurking in the stone work of the cathedral, is left untouched, while the head of the saint (or whatever) to the right has been struck off, defaced at the very least, part of the cleansing of the Augean Stables following on from the Henrican reformation. The reformers clearly had it in for the heads of saints in a way that they did not for the work of the devil. All very odd.
All of which serves to remind us, when castigating the Salafists for desecration & destruction of other peoples' religious monuments, world heritage sites even (so designated by no less an outfit than Unesco), that we have done stuff of the same the sort ourselves - albeit five hundred years ago. Hopefully the Salafists will not take quite that long to move on.
