A snap of what appears to be a new-build house, somewhere near the Ouse at Ely.
Where they have carried the period reconstruction to the point of windows bricked up for the Pitt window tax. A common enough feature of houses of Nelsonian era (thus avoiding the tax intended to pay for the battleships needed to keep out the French. Some things never change), but it seems to be carrying things a bit far to reproduce them now.
Was it a condition of the house getting planning permission? Were they replacing a house with such windows which mysteriously burnt down?
