Its those dantes again

Following the not altogether satisfactory concert at reference 1, back to Dorking's Martineau Hall for some more on Sunday. Much better, both from the point of view of the music and of the accoustics, which last were an entirely non-issue, certainly for me, on this second occasion.

Haydn as good as we have come to expect. The Endellion's first violin, who told us at one of their concerts that Haydn was the first of the three kings of string quartets (the other two being Beethoven and Bartók), has turned out to be completely right.

Bartók modern and completely satisfactory. And rather to my surprise, having thought that Debussy was mainly a purveyor of over complicated piano music, I really liked his String Quartet in G minor.

So all in all a good afternoon. But we decided it was too late to see if the now French owned and refurbished Burford Bridge Hotel could manage tea & toasted tea cakes, which was, as it turned out, just as well, as it had come on to rain quite hard by the time that we got home.
