Down House 3

The garden also sported some fine angelica, which I had thought was some exotic plant, perhaps Chinese, somehow turned into the green stuff we used when I was a child to decorate the Christmas cake with. Sugary green stuff which one cut into thin strips.

But which I now know to be widely distributed across the temperate part of the northern hemisphere. Including the UK, but also as far north as Lapland and Alaska. Widely used in quack & folk medicine.
