Yesterday saw the debate on the bill to allow assisted dying. By good luck, the bill got hours of air time in the Commons, attracting hundreds of MPs, a lot more than plenty of other good - and bad - causes get. Sadly, it was voted down, with MPs voting 3 to 1 against, while the population at large votes 4 to 1 for. But we are a representative democracy, the best way yet thought of to run things; to our MPs go the power and the glory.
So we must find the way to whatever world it is that they live in and bring them back to ours.
But it is not going to be any time soon. In the scheme of things, the rights of the dying lie somewhere between those of gays and those of foxes and we are not going to get another such outing any time soon. All rather depressing. Perhaps I had better pay my subs. to the people in Zurich, just in case.
