Bit of luck yesterday, picking up a nearly new copy of the Observer. It even had some news & topical comment in it, with maybe just half being padders knocked out offline in provincial front rooms, far from the cut & thrust of life in the real world.
But I was depressed by this advertisement from Amnesty International - who may have been a touch economical with the truth, but I dare say the substance of it is true enough. Depressed that we should be beholden to such people. It is bad enough that we have to buy their oil, but worse that we find it necessary to suck up to them in the way that we do, with, for example, the two monarchs sharing cosy gossip about their race horses. Not to mention all the expensive toys we sell to their military.
It would be better to be beholden to the frackers of the mid West. They might not be terribly savoury people either, with scant regard for the environment or global warming, but I don't think that they go on year long flogging fests.
