Techies of a certain age will like the neat cartoon attached to today's Google search screen. Old style mainframe chugging away while it does simple sums.
Techies slightly older than me may remember the case of the water cooled mainframe which had to be shut down because the cooling water intake got clogged up with pond weed. An old variant of the new story about the nuclear power station which had to be shut down because its cooling water intake got clogged up with jellyfish, important members of phylum cnidaria, a phylum which the NYRB told us recently is poised to take over the rather biodegraded marine part of our world. A phylum which thrived when the world was young, full of volcanoes & such like, before proper animals were invented and which is set to thrive again.
