Botanical brain waves

The first botanical brain wave of the year was the removal of the ivy growing at the left hand exit to the patio by a juniper which had been pot bound near by. It being a wave because after the event the switch seemed such an obviously good idea that one couldn't understand why one had not done it before.

The second botanical brain wave, a couple of days ago, was the removal of the yew which occupied a considerable position on the right hand side of the path leading to the small compost bin. As it turned out the box growing behind it somehow seemed to expand to fill the lower part of the hole, leaving us with a lot more light in that part of the garden and no unsightly hole. The picture gives some idea, while making it all look much more spacious than it really is; definitely an estate agent's picture, albeit unintended.

The solstice stone erected June 11th last year is just visible, slightly but irritatingly out of level, to the left of the path.
