Nonsuch Park

This afternoon to Nonsuch park for a quiet stroll. It is a while since we have been there, although it seems unlikely that we have not been since 9th March, the last time of record.

Very pleasant place for a late afternoon stroll  after the Sunday lunch. Very mild, not hot. Most of the grass has been left to grow, with just the paths mown, and is now fairly brown; for my money a good way of managing the grass - cheap and attractive. Good mixture of young and old trees (and no deer to eat them). Formal flower beds rather past their best but still showing some of their former glory.

Lots of people about, lots of dogs and lots of small children. Plus a very smartly turned out French couple taking break from the wedding in the main building - on a day which is not a big day for weddings. But I did not think to ask, even supposing I could have mustered the French for such a question, so I settled for just ascertaining that it was a wedding. They had little English, so I guess that they were finding it quite hard work.

Polish girls still doing a good job in the café, still with good cakes, in our case a slice of coffee sponge and an Eccles cake. Good doggy discussion with the lady at the next table.

We passed up the opportunity to contribute to the model palace fund for the second or third time.

All in all a good place.

Home to left over soup which goes as follows.

Take 6oz of mashed potato from Saturday lunch. Take 7oz of mashed old and sweet potato and 2oz of finely chopped cabbage from Sunday lunch. Add to three pints of water together with the (thick brown) contents of a Knorr chicken stock pot. Stir and then put aside. Gently fry a finely chopped onion in a good knob of butter. Add in the vegetables etc and bring the whole to the boil. Add one nest of Sharwood's noodles. Simmer for five minutes (don't believe what is says about four minutes on the packet) and serve with brown bread and butter for Sunday supper. Try not to leave any as it is not a good plan to recycle mashed potato - old or sweet - more than once. With thanks to Ocado for the image.
