Last week fossil dinosaurs, this week fossil leaves. Or, more precisely, some sort of print left by falling leaves on a concrete sidewalk. Maybe if you walk on a wet leaf at just the right state of decomposition, it does this.
The sidewalk in question being the northern sidewalk of the eastern end of the Boulevard des Allumettières in Gatineau. Confusingly named the Boulevard Saint-Laurent on our rather elderly map from Rand McNally.
Consulting Wikipedia, I find that both the construction and naming of this arterial boulevard caused much controversy. Probably involved demolition of chunks of old Gatineau. The name is for the match girls who worked in the once important Gatineau match industry.
