A Norfolk village (3)

Continuing the occasional series of posts about Norfolk villages, this one was prompted by a blog found for me by the next blog button, a button which sometimes comes up with something other than recipes or babies.

In this case a village disturbed by a threat to dig a large sandpit on the outskirts.

A sandpit which would, presumably, have provided much money to the present owner of the land, perhaps a farmer who has had enough of farming, some jobs for villagers and a considerable blot on the landscape. Not to mention raw materials to help with all that affordable housing that we so need to knock out. Got to come from somewhere and it does not make much sense to ship it from China, although I believe that we do ship slate from China and thatch from Portugal. In the course of investigating whether this was a live issue, I came across a  number of kill the quarry sites, but also one featuring lots of flashy advertisements for large toys for the boys - not to mention a very engaging video about the Moroccan toe lathe, containing live chisel action entirely unqualified by the activities of the health and safety people.
